Muelle Viejo is the postcard image of Puerto Natales: a weathered wooden dock stretching into Última Esperanza Sound with snow-capped mountains and glaciers as backdrop. There's no entrance fee, nothing to buy - just Patagonian landscape at arm's length. The light hits best at sunset, when lateral rays turn the water copper and birds crowd the pilings; in summer that window extends past 11 PM. Two things matter before you go: wind here is relentless and strong year-round, so proper layers aren't optional, and parts of the dock show real decay that closes off sections. With those facts clear, the visit rarely disappoints.
The light hits the water sideways at sunset and the posts fill with birds, and that alone justifies the walk out to the end. Go layered, because the wind off the seno Última Esperanza is serious year-round, and some sections of the old wooden structure are roped off
