Museo Vivo del Muralismo holds the world's largest collection of Diego Rivera murals - over 200 works spread across three floors and two courtyards of a former convent turned government building, now open to the public for free. The architecture itself is as compelling as the paintings: colonial stone, light wells, staircases that become gallery walls. You'll also find work by Siqueiros, Montenegro, and their contemporaries. The real catch: guided-tour quality is uneven - some guides prioritize ideology over looking at the actual work - and interior signage is sparse for a building this size. Bring three hours minimum, comfortable shoes, and expect to navigate by instinct.
The building alone justifies the detour: this is the SEP headquarters, a UNESCO heritage site, and it holds over 200 original Diego Rivera murals across three floors and two courtyards, all free to enter. Three hours is the honest minimum
