Plaza Quinto Centenario is Punta Arenas' most authentic vantage point over the Strait of Magellan - a sprawling, windswept public space where the horizon and Cerro Mirador backdrop create views that stay with you. Dawn and dusk transform the water into something difficult to describe. Beyond the landscape, the plaza functions as real infrastructure: skateboard park, BMX track, multi-sport courts, and an oddly charming electric go-kart circuit. Food trucks and souvenir vendors complete the visit. Wind is non-negotiable here, so bring a hat. The honest note: litter accumulates in sections and along the water's edge. It doesn't wreck the experience, but it diminishes a place that could be immaculate.
The view over the Estrecho de Magallanes at dusk is the whole reason to come, and it delivers. Bring something warm because the Patagonian wind is not decoration. The litter along the shore is a real problem for a place that could easily be spotless
