Parque María Behety is Punta Arenas's most unconventional green space: native forest trails, a lagoon lined with ducks, views across the Strait of Magellan, and life-sized sculptures of Patagonian prehistoric megafauna that stay with you long after you leave. Entry is free and open all hours. The calm is genuine, the landscape is real, and families and dogs move through it easily. But arrive with clear eyes: the sculptures show serious damage - missing limbs and weathered sections are the rule, not exceptions - and the park bears the marks of years without municipal investment. The lagoon collects litter, boardwalks have deteriorated stretches. Worth the visit, especially with children, but this is a place where Patagonian soul and civic neglect exist in equal measure.
Parque María Behety gives you native forest, a lagoon with ducks, views of the strait, and life-size replicas of Patagonian prehistoric megafauna that children genuinely remember. The park is free and open at all hours, but go with honest expectations: the sculptures are damaged and the maintenance shows years of neglect
