Museo Maggiorino Borgatello is Punta Arenas' most comprehensive cultural stop - four floors moving from Patagonian taxidermy (with pieces that genuinely arrest you) through indigenous history, Antarctic exploration, and regional petroleum industry. Bilingual signage and accessible pricing make it generous. The indigenous peoples gallery and animal collection produce real astonishment at their scale and rarity. Two things matter: the museum is run by the Salesian congregation, and its colonization narrative omits critical perspective on indigenous genocide - a gap visitors from several countries notice. Part of the display design shows age. Bring cash; cards aren't accepted.
Cash only, so come prepared. Four floors covering Patagonian wildlife, indigenous peoples, Antarctic exploration, and the oil industry make this the most complete cultural stop in Punta Arenas, but the salesiana congregation runs it, and their telling of the colonization story leaves out the hard parts about what happened to the indigenous communities
