The Base Las Torres viewpoint is one of the world's genuinely consequential day hikes: 20–23 kilometers with over 3,000 feet of elevation gain that culminates in a moment most people describe as transformative. You round the final boulder field and the three granite towers appear reflected in turquoise water, sudden and complete. Sunrise up there, with the sky burning orange and the crowds still sleeping, is why people come. Two facts matter: the trail closes access to the viewpoint between 2 and 3 p.m., and anyone arriving after the control checkpoint gets turned back without seeing anything - this cutoff is not always posted at the trailhead. Crowding is real from mid-morning onward. Leave before 7 a.m. And both problems disappear.
The trail closes access to the mirador between 14:00 and 15:00, and anyone who arrives late to the checkpoint gets turned back with nothing, so leave before 7:00 am
When to go
Open daily 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Start before 7 a.m. to beat crowds and the 2–3 p.m. Cutoff.
How long
4–5 hours total. Plan for 3–4 hours of walking, depending on fitness.
Do not miss
The first view of the towers reflected in the lagoon - it appears suddenly after the final rock scramble.
Good to know
The trail has a hard 2–3 p.m. Cutoff for summit access; arriving after closes you out completely.
