Guardería Grey is the most direct entry point to the Grey Glacier at the heart of Torres del Paine. The lakeside trail - well-marked and accessible to most fitness levels - leads to a viewpoint where the glacier's grey-blue face and floating icebergs create a genuine, wordless pause. The catamaran extension deepens the experience considerably. The facilities are genuinely well-maintained: clean bathrooms, a restaurant, a small market, all recently renovated. The real condition here is wind; gusts exceed 100 kilometers per hour regularly, so layered clothing and a windbreaker aren't suggestions - they're necessary. The less-digitally-mapped hike up to Mirador Ferrier is the quiet extra that curious visitors discover on their own.
The wind here is not a detail, it is the main event, so a windproof layer and warm clothes underneath are not optional. That said, the lake trail delivers a real view of the glacier and floating icebergs, and the catamaran gets you close enough to understand why people make the trip
